Suzi has been designing and making Fosse Beads since 2015, working initially from home in the heart of Somerset by the ancient Roman Fosseway, which was the inspiration for the name of the beads.

Suzi is a graphic design & illustration graduate, and has had a very successful and rewarding career teaching 11-18 year olds, as the Head of Art of two secondary schools. She has curated major exhibitions of students’ work at the Chapel Row Gallery and Victoria Art Gallery in Bath, and has also worked for an exam board, assessing the work of Art, Photography and Textiles students. Hugely inspired by a ceramic glazing workshop she attended, she is now enjoying the opportunity to show that those who can ‘teach’, can ‘do’ as well…

Suzi loves working in the nurturing and creative environment at Black Swan Arts, and Studio 3 allows her to engage with visitors and other artists and designers. She is able to try out new ideas and receive almost instant feedback!

Suzi designs and hand makes every bead, which is painted and glazed, fired, and finished with a real silver core, and for special editions, a copper or 9ct gold core, stamped with her maker’s mark – FB.

Her beads are small intricate ‘works of art’ made from porcelain – a ceramic material created by firing a specialist clay in a kiln to very high temperatures (typically in excess of 1200 °C). The result is vitrified, hard, tactile, beautiful white beads, which are lovely to handle and wear.

It’s all about the details…Suzi pays great attention to the finishing touches and details in her work, which is on display in Studio 3 at Black Swan Arts in Frome for visitors to enjoy.
