Suzi has been designing and making Fosse Beads since 2015, working initially from home in the heart of Somerset by the ancient Roman Fosseway, which was the inspiration for the name of the beads.

Suzi is a graphic design & illustration graduate, and has had a very successful and rewarding career teaching 11-18 year olds, as the Head of Art of two secondary schools. Hugely inspired by a ceramic glazing course she attended, she is now enjoying the opportunity to show that those who can ‘teach’, can ‘do’ very well as well…

Suzi loves working in the creative environment at Black Swan Arts, and Studio 3 allows her to engage with visitors and other artists and designers. She is able to try out new ideas and receive lots of positive feedback!

Suzi designs and handmakes every bead, which is decorated and glazed, fired, and finished with a real silver core, and for special editions, a copper or 9ct gold core, stamped with her maker’s mark – FB.

Her beads are small intricate ‘works of art’ made from porcelain – a ceramic material created by firing a specialist clay in a kiln to very high temperatures (typically in excess of 1200 °C). The result is vitrified, hard, tactile, beautiful white beads, which are lovely to handle and wear.

A new Studio Collection has been introduced in Studio 3, and soon-to-be on this website, with complementary porcelain pendant necklaces and brooches.

It’s all about the details…Suzi pays great attention to the finishing touches and details in her work, which is on display in Studio 3 at Black Swan Arts in Frome for visitors to enjoy.
